The Cornerstone Baptist Church Family was born on February 19, 1984 when ninety-seven people took a God-sized step of faith and began meeting as a Church Family in the McMinnville Civic Center. Joe Miller preached the first messages and Pete Hatcher led the music. In April of 1984, our new church family was meeting in the McMinnville Seventh Day Adventist facilities and David Walker was called as Interim Pastor. The very early days of Cornerstone included a tent revival in the parking lot of the Three Star Mall where God worked mightily in the midst of His people…including a miracle of the weather!
As God led, our church family purchased land in 1984 in our present location, and Interim Pastor Walker led the church family in Brush Arbor meetings on the land where our building now sits.
God continued His Blessings! That giant step of faith in beginning the church, the evangelistic meetings, the purchase of land, and the growth of the church, was evidence that it was God’s timing to build. Our church family broke ground for a new building on March 23, 1986. The celebration of the building’s completion and the first worship service in our new facility was held in October 1986.
Since that time, God has continued to bless Cornerstone. This powerful ministry has grown in many ways. In recent years, our Lord has used this congregation to disciple and grow His people in spirit. With that spiritual growth has come a larger church body, and a warmer fellowship. Even the church property increased when God led us to purchase the lot adjacent to our grounds.
Because of the sacrifice of the men and women who envisioned a church like Cornerstone, and the leadership of chosen men of God, our family has become a stronghold for believers in this community and a lighthouse for those who are lost in sin. Each time we come together to worship the Lord, He seems to move in a unique way. It is our prayer that He will always be pleased with Cornerstone Baptist Church.
